Bishop Otis McCormick was born on November 16, 1934 in Sanford, North Carolina. In the early fifties, he moved to Brooklyn, New York to live with his older sister. He attended the First Church of God in Christ at 1745 Pacific Street in Brooklyn, New York. There he was saved under Bishop Joseph Clemmons, Sr. and Jr. Pastor Bishop Ithiel Clemmons.
He was appointed the North West Regional Evangelist for The National Church of God in Christ in the 1978. Bishop McCormick served with Bishop Ford and Bishop Porter in the National Public Relations Department during the 80’s. He completed the National Adjutants Academy in 1989 as well as being appointed the President of USAC for the State of Alaska during the same year. In 1990 he was designated Second Administrative Assistant to the Alaska Jurisdictional Prelate Bishop Charles D. Williams and he was promoted to First Administrative Assistant in 2006. In November 2012 he was consecrated by the International Church of God in Christ into the office of Auxiliary Bishop for the State of Alaska.
Bishop McCormick is highly regarded throughout the state of Alaska and the local communities of Fairbanks and North Pole. He is recognized as a leader among leaders with strong community service ties. He has served with distinction as founder of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Fairbanks (IMAF), and as a past president of the J.P. Jones Community Development Center. Bishop McCormick also served on the board of directors of the Fairbanks Rescue Mission and was one of the founding board members of Love in the Name of Christ (Love, Inc.), a faith-based community service organization comprised of local area churches united together offering hope and various services to people in need. He has served as president of the Fairbanks Chapter of the Kiwanis Club and is listed as a promotional leader in the Field of Religion and Membership Organizations in the prestigious Who’s Who in America 2007-2008 edition. And in February, 2013, Bishop McCormick was the recipient of the ALCAN Achievement “Man of Distinction” award presented by the J.P. Jones Community Development Center.
As a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Bishop McCormick is a strong promoter of men’s ministries and their roles as husbands, fathers, and leaders. He has been married to the wife of his youth for 64 years and has eight children all in the ministry. Three sons are ordained elders; two of which are pastors.
Bishop McCormick is the founding pastor of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, North Pole, Alaska. He is a Holy Spirit-led minister and a “the Bible is right” teacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ who knows how to lead and to follow. His example to those who know him is, “Follow me as I follow Christ”.
